Re: "Mail Route Not Safe," The News, Aug. 9-10
I am a letter carrier and have and do work with rural mail carriers. The comments City of Mississauga councillor Carolyn Parrish made about these carriers is rude, ignorant and uncalled for. For decades, these carriers were forced to remain contractors without an avenue to express their health and safety concerns.
To receive a pay cheque, they continually took risks delivering the mail. They have and still do go the extra mile, literally, for their customers. Today, as employees, they have representation and access to the heath and safety laws that are in effect to protect the well-being of all employees at Canada Post. No one goes to work to die.
Parrish should do some research and ask questions before spouting off to the media and trashing workers' reputations. There is evidence of rural mail carriers being injured and killed in the performance of their duties in this country. Perhaps Parrish should be asking how she can protect the health and well-being of her constituents and ensuring her community is safe for all who work, live and play there.
Grow up Ms. Parrish, and apologize for your comments. Then, go find the real story.
