The black tie affair drew about 100 people to the Mississauga Golf And Country Club last night to celebrate heritage and help to raise funds for a very special piece of history.
The Mississauga Heritage Foundation (MHF) will use funds raised from the event to pay for a replacement for the missing Ontario Heritage Trust plaque.
The memorial, which disappeared about 18 months ago from the golf and country club, spoke to the historical significance of the area, which used to house what was called the Credit Mission. It was home to the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation people before they were moved to a reservation near Hagersville.
Special guests at the 2nd annual event included former Lieutenant Governor of Ontario Lincoln M. Alexander and Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation Chief Bryan LaForme as well as Mayor Hazel McCallion.
MHF executive director Jayme Gaspar said the money raised from the ball will replace the plaque with a commemorative garden and mounting a new memorial.
Funds raised will also go to support the heritage organization's various programs.
Last year's event raised $24,000.
The evening included dinner and dancing. Mississauga News publisher Ron Lenyk was emcee.
