November 13, 2008 10:02 AM - The recently appointed president and chief executive officer of the Mississauga Board of Trade (MBOT) has been elected as Chair of the Chamber Executives of Ontario (CEO) at the organization's annual general meeting and conference in Burlington.
CEO is the leading professional development association for the senior management of chambers of commerce and boards of trade in Ontario.
Sheldon Leiba came to MBOT in July and has been on the board of directors for CEO for the past four years. He was CEO's vice chair and treasurer previously.
“I have a tremendous amount of appreciation for the chamber manager profession and for those that serve as tireless leaders in their respective boards of trade and communities," Leiba said in a press release.
"We all have a common passion for making our chambers and business communities more successful, and CEO provides great opportunities for us to learn, develop, and share ideas and best practices. It is because I have benefited so much from CEO that I want to give back.”
Before joining MBOT, Leiba was CEO of the Brampton Board of Trade where he served for seven years.
MBOT is a private-sector, not-for-profit business organization representing about 1,500 businesses which employ 65,000 people in Mississauga.
