November 10, 2008 08:12 PM - The Streetsville Tigers proved to be the hosts with the most at the 41st annual Streetsville Tigers Fall Tournament over the weekend.
With seven divisions up for grabs, the Tigers skated away with the Minor Midget AA title with a 6-2 win over the Goulding Park Rangers.
For the Tigers, it was their second tournament championship of the young season.
Prior to facing off against the Rangers, the Tigers defeated the Caledon Hawks, Stratford Warriors and Ottawa Silver Seven.
In the championship game with the Rangers, the Tigers jumped into a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by Jamie Murdoch and Cameron McCaig.
A goal by Carson Van Dyke and strong goaltending by Eddie Sokolowski enabled the Tigers to carry a 3-2 lead into the third period, despite spending much of the second period killing penalties.
Goals by Sean Flannagan, Michael Lajeunesse and Christian Verlezza in the third period put the game away.
Early in September, the Tigers went undefeated at the Mississauga Early Bird tournament including a 1-0 victory over the Mississauga Terriers in the final.
The team is headed up by coaches Norm McKeogh, Ross Murray, Joe Leo and trainer Mark Fenech.
Other team members include Naiman Fenech, George Hurley, Kevin Marsh, Jason Merker, Michael Neglia, Adam Pereira, Matthew Pizzi, Michael Porfirio, Steven Sterne and Justin Truong.
The Tigers weren’t the lone Mississauga representatives to win at the Fall Tournament. The Mississauga Braves won the Minor Bantam title with a 5-0 win over the Georgina Blaze.
