In a five-minute segment on Thanksgiving safety — the American Thanksgiving holiday begins Nov. 27 — the Safe-T-element was highlighted as one of the ways to prevent the leading cause of household fires in North America: stove-top cooking.
Made by Pioneering Technology Corp. of Mississauga, the Safe-T-element can be installed on new stoves or be retrofitted for old ones. The element is an electronically-controlled solid cover plate that controls temperature. It limits the maximum temperature to just below the ignition point for oil and most common fibres.
When the plate reaches a dangerous temperature, the stove automatically shuts off. Then, as the plate cools, the stove-top is turned on again.
Thanksgiving Day brings more cooking related fires than any other day of the year.
"The awareness, recognition and sales activity that this product has been enjoying ... over the past six months has been tremendous and now today for the first time the product will be exposed to a national audience as part of North America's number one morning news program," said Kevin Callahan, CEO of Pioneering Technology Corp.
Pioneering Technology has its head offices at 220 Britannia Rd. E. in Mississauga.
