Lively marching tunes evocative of the past will be part of a Sunday concert paying tribute to veterans and troops.
The concert, Lest We Forget, takes place Sunday, Nov. 9 at 2 p.m at the Meadowvale Theatre to mark Remembrance Day, which falls on Nov. 11.
The musical salute will feature the Mississauga Pops Concert Band and the Streetsville Pipes and Drums. Marches include favourites such as Royal Air Force March Past, The Maple Leaf Forever and The Dambusters.
A string of old and popular offerings from the 1930s and '40s will also be performed.
“It's not all standard songs; it's a mix,” said Joshua Borg, acting president of Mississauga Pops. “We're all here to have a good time and to have fun. We have the common interest of making music.”
Borg notes the Mississauga Pops Concert Band, formerly known as Meadowvale Concert Band, is celebrating its 30th anniversary next year.
The 60-member band includes teachers, firemen, computer professionals, and paramedics — all between 20 and 70 years of age. Its founding member, Larry Vella, an amateur clarinet player, is still part of the band.
Tickets cost $18-$20 for seniors and students, and $12 for children under 12.
