August 18, 2008 11:43 AM - Trillium Health Centre has received a $115,000 grant from the Ontario government to provide special training to those who deal with the critically ill.
"Training another 10 nurses in the area of critical care will get critically ill or injured patients the highly specialized life-saving care they need,” said Mississauga East-Cooksville MPP Peter Fonseca in making the announcement over the weekend.
“By investing in this highly specialized and needed training, Ontario becomes a world leader in critical care nursing education and will ensure the development of an expert and sustainable nursing workforce for the future.”
The funding is part of the Province’s critical care strategy, a $4.5-million initiative that will allow 76 more hospitals to train nurses.
The program, in its second year, will provide 664 nurses who work in critical care units with additional instruction in specialized areas.
Critical care alone can amount to as much as 30 per cent of a hospital's budget.
