August 15, 2008 01:50 PM - Streetsville singer/songwriter John Tayles is playing the Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto on Wednesday.
Tayles, who hits the stage at 9 p.m., will perform selections from his upcoming album, Thoughts Out Loud. The CD is to be released Oct. 14.
Also on the bill is Cure Gravity and Arms & Sleepers.
Last November, Tayles survived hundreds of cuts to win $30,000 through an online music competition hosted by the website, www.slicethepie.com. He was one of 14 artists from around the world to make it to the finals, where he captured a third of the votes to win the contest.
The money Tayles received was put towards recording and promoting his new album.
"The news was unbelievable," Tayles previously told The News. "This is an opportunity that many musicians hope for. The winnings and exposure will go a long way in making my first album."
The musician worked with producer Darren Grahn (Bon Jovi, Metallica, Black Eyed Peas) on Thoughts Out Loud. The album was recorded in Vancouver at Mushroom Studios and Hipposonic Studios as well as Number 9 Audio Group in Toronto and Boom Cave in Oshawa.
A graduate of St. Joseph Secondary School, Tayles got his start in local bars such as the Cock and Pheasant and The Devil's Harp.
Tickets to the concert cost $4.
