Re: Plug pulled on power station, July 18. This is not only the right thing, but the best thing that could have happened, not only for Lakeview, but all of Mississauga and Ontario.
We now have a blank canvas of land on the waterfront with huge potential. Where else in the GTA is that much waterfront available?
Anyone who questions what could or should go here should take a look at The Lakeview Legacy Plan, approved in February by City Council.
With room for a stadium, fresh water aquarium, university, housing, shops, boutiques, restaurants, jobs etc., this land can become a world-class tourist area that will benefit all of us.
The opportunity is also here to develop using green technologies. Deep water cooling, solar energy and wind power are a few ideas that could be looked at.
MPP Charles Sousa, City Council and Energy Minister George Smitherman saw this diamond in the rough, recognized what a jewel it was, and did the right thing.
