July 25, 2008 02:28 PM - Canada's Veteran Affairs Minister Greg Thompson will be at Meadowvale Cemetery this weekend to mark the 55th anniversary of the Korean War Armistice.
Thompson  will give an address and lay a wreath Sunday morning at the Korea Veterans National Wall of Remembrance at the Mavis Rd. cemetery.
From 1950 to 1953, more than 26,000 Canadians served in Korea. On July 27, 1953, the Korean War Armistice was signed, ending three years of fighting. An additional 7,000 Canadians served between the signing of the Armistice and the end of 1955, with some Canadian troops remaining until 1957. In total, 516 brave young Canadians made the ultimate sacrifice while serving with the United Nations forces.
The anniversary will be remembered at a number of events across Canada.
