A Lazy Sunday Afternoon in the Gardens & Gallery includes a walk through Gairloch Gardens in Oakville followed by lunch provided by the Whole Foods Market. After eating, attendees will be taken on a tour of exhibitions at both the AGM and Oakville Galleries.
During the tour, which runs from 11:30 a.m.-4 p.m., there will be a chance to speak with both the curators of the exhibitions and some of the participating artists. Cost is $10.
In Oakville, the exhibition, Societe de Ville (City Society), continues at Centennial Square. Curated by Marnie Fleming and featuring the works of Claude-Philippe Benoit, the photographic show examines "both the beauty and anxiety associated with the fringes of surveyed urban space."
It continues at the gallery until Aug. 31.
At Gairloch Gardens, the exhibition, Mnemonic Devices, is on display until the end of August. The Matthew Hyland-curated show includes the works of artists Stephen Andrews, Bill Barrette, John Brown, Janet Cardiff, Stan Denniston, Attila Richard Lukacs, Duncan MacDonald, Regan Morris, Paulette Phillips and Collette Whiten.
The exhibition, assembled from Oakville Galleries' permanent collection, explores the manner in which time, emotion and popular culture influence the formation and transformation of memories.
At the AGM, the exhibition, Explorers and Dandies in an Open Letter to Canada Post, will also be explored. Featuring the works of artists Frederick Hagan and Kent Monkman, the Su-Ying Lee-curated exhibition is billed as a cheeky and humorous examination of just who has the authority to officiate over national history.
In the Civic Square, Adrian Blackwell's Models for Public Spaces will also be toured. Set up just outside the gallery, the installation examines social space.
Following the tour, a discussion will be held in the Civic Square focusing on the ongoing Art Gallery of Peel exhibition, Heritage Complex. Speakers include artist Eric Glavin, artist and architect Haythem K. Said as well as architect Alan Tregebov.
Sunday's tour starts at 11:30 a.m., when a bus will pick up people at the AGM before heading to Oakville. The tour returns to the AGM later in the day.
