Air India moves its base of operations today from Terminal 3 to Terminal 1 at Pearson International Airport.
The move is being made in part so that Air India's operations can be realigned to join its future partner, Star Alliance.
Last December, Air India's application to join Star Alliance was approved. Star Alliance partners form the world's largest airline network with 18,000 daily flights and serving more than 950 destinations in 160 countries,
At the time of the merger, Star Alliance spokesman Glenn Tilton said, "India has long been on the radar of Star Alliance; after all it is one of the world’s fastest growing economies and aviation markets. Having now come to an agreement with Air India makes us the first airline alliance to secure a member in India, which will enable our customers to receive more benefits when travelling to, from and within India in the future.”
With the move to Terminal 1, Air India passengers will benefit from reduced transfer times when connecting with other flights operated by Star Alliance partners in the same building.
Air India currently operates three weekly flights between Toronto and Delhi with a stop in Birmingham, UK.
